Upon acceptance to the Skylands Ski Patrol, candidates must pass the Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) course, which trains members in essential emergency care skills, including managing broken bones, treating lacerations, and responding to medical emergencies. After completing the OEC, candidates are required to successfully complete the Sled and Toboggan (S&T) course, which covers the procedures for safely transporting injured patients off the mountain.

Candidates must also participate in the annual lift evacuation training, where they learn how to safely remove someone from a chairlift in the event of an emergency. Additionally, all members will be trained in CPR and are required to attend yearly refreshers for both OEC and lift evacuation training.

Skylands Ski Patrol members are expected to pay annual dues, which contribute to both the local patrol and the National Ski Patrol organization. These dues help support the ongoing training, equipment, and resources necessary for maintaining the high standards of the patrol.
